# 0532 :: fortifications & gardens

jaipur, rajasthan, india. october 2005.
krvia : 2nd yr : study trip

"The erstwhile capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs, Amber was the royal seat of power before the shift to Jaipur. Reach the fort by jeep or walk up (but avoid the elephant ride). Within the first courtyard are temples and shops, both of which can be avoided if you don’t have the time. The next court features the Mughal-inspired diwan-i-aam. A three storey gateway lying beyond this court is however more alluring, and leads to the diwan-i-khaas and the sheesh mahal.
With every available square inch covered in minute mirror work, the entire sheesh mahal dazzles with the light of a single match. Move further into the fortress and explore the royal apartments, narrow passages, more courtyards, intricate marble work, chattris and jharokhas.
If time permits, meander your way through the narrow lanes of Old Amber, lying at the base of the hill." - Forts & Palaces of Jaipur, Kunal Bhatia, MMO, May 26, 2007.

in the photo: looking down from amber fort. in the foreground: tiered gardens in the maotha lake, followed by the approach roads.. and the fortifications snaking up the hills

# 2403 :: dam wall

sakhwar, maharashtra, india. dec 2007.
krvia : 2nd yr : sem V : ad site

the retaining wall and contoured part of the design-project site. located in thane, a few hours north of mumbai. we were in the 'site group' and expected to figure out the contours and extents of the site. the extents were manageable, but not having done any practical survey-levelling in the second year, we had to invent our own ways of measuring the contours.
if you look really hard, you can spot four class-mates in the photo.

# 9999 :: hampi gateway

hampi, karnataka, india. dec 2007.
krvia 4th yr : jindal steel factory visit.

one of the many gateways that dot the hampi-sites, this one still serves its original purpose: that of serving as a gateway. strangely, a 500 year old gateway has the perfect clearance for a 48-seater bus to pass under it. the crossing of the gate by the bus, was a mini-event in itself; with less than an inch of clearance between the bus-top and the lintel, the helper had to step out to direct the driver, 10 questioning heads popped out from either side, and we held back the traffic for a good 5 minutes...
btw, if your ever planning to visi hampi, then www.hampi.in, managed by a hampi enthusiast from south india, deserves a few clicks.

what this is

hola! this is what i had in mind about this blog: i save the photos that i click with a numbered-file name, ordered serially. it started with 00001 (duh!) and it's somewhere in the 12000s right now. if you're reading this blog, leave a number in the last post's comments (apart from any comments about the post that you may have). from the number(s) in the comments, i'd pick one (as of now, on a random basis) and post the photograph that corresponds to that number. i think it should make an interesting project...
